Menswear designer Andrew Coimbra recently debuted his fall/winter 2016 collection in Toronto to a select group of media. Building on his tradition of luxe sportswear, Coimbra's latest collection showcases key pieces every man would want in their modern wardrobe: the graphic sweatshirt, the bomber jacket and the re-invented tracksuit.

“The inspiration for the FW16 collection came from the oil spill off the coast of Vancouver, in 2015. I began thinking about the different forms of marine pollution and researching natural forms of defense for marine wildlife, in efforts of juxtaposing the two themes. This collection is a combination of my current aesthetic and bringing attention to a topic that needs to be put in the spotlight,” says Coimbra on his Fall/Winter 2016 collection.

Incorporating such an important environmental issue into a collection can come across as clunky and over wrought but Coimbra’s signature minimalist aesthetic ensure a well-executed collection. The collection includes oil printed fabrics, slick textures and playful pop art embellishments. Coimbra proves that Canadians can do American Sportswear just as well as their southern counterparts.

Coimbra previously cut his design teeth under such namesake brands as Pink Tartan, Phillip Sparks and Proenza Schouler before launching his own line in 2014. To check out the full collection, visit his website.
