There's no doubt that athletes have increasingly become style icons. Over the past few years, we've seen players like Victor Cruz and Russell Westbrook not only flexing in their designer outfits pre- and post-game, but also launching their own clothing lines and sitting front row at fashion week. But are there 48 others? Sports Illustrated seems to think so. The magazine is launching a new editorial initiative that will highlight the most stylish players. Called "The Fashionable 50," SI will rank the best-dressed athletes and feature them in a 12-page spread in the magazine, as well as online.
The 50 athletes, which includes 12 women and 38 men who have yet to be revealed, were chosen by a panel of style experts that include SI swimsuit models, fashion executives, and fashion journalists. The list will reportedly also include swimsuit models, which is not much of a vote of confidence for how well the magazine thinks female athletes can dress. According to WWD, Michael Strahan, Victor Cruz, Chanel Iman are a few who have been included.
The top ten most fashionable athletes will featured be on SI.com on April 11 and will be on a special flip cover of the magazine’s NFL Draft preview issue that hits newsstands on April 13.
