Willow Smith was named a Chanel ambassador in March, received an eyewear campaign with the label last month, and, as we wrote, this is a really big deal. The magnitude of Smith as face of Chanel hasn't escaped her, either. The Chanel ambassador spoke with The Telegraph about what the appointment means to her.

"It’s not every day that a 15-year-old black girl with dreads gets elected to be the Chanel ambassador,” she told The Telegraph, echoing sentiments she shared in April. “I know a lot of girls that look like me feel that they’re not beautiful and feel like they don’t have a place in the media or a place in the world."

"I want them to know that’s not true, and if you’re confident and you love yourself then everything you see, your perception, will start to change and you’ll see things differently," she continued. "I want to show those girls that might not think they’re beautiful but they are."

Rihanna shared similar feelings when she was named an ambassador for Dior. "It is such a big deal for me, for my culture, for a lot of young girls of any color, I think, to be acknowledged by Dior," Rihanna said at the time.
