“Puerto Rican women are very confident. Extremely confident.”

These are some of the first sentiments Coco and Breezy expressed when discussing their heritage in the video above. As daughters of an American southerner and a Puerto Rican woman from a very traditional family, this design team duo epitomizes the word "dedication" when it comes to chasing their dreams. At 19, the identical twin sisters either dropped and sold everything they had to move to NYC and try to make it as eyewear designers. From the jump, they claim that the “feisty” side of being Puerto Rican women definitely helped them in their pursuit.

But their mutual dream wasn’t just to become eyewear designers. They wanted to design a pair of sunglasses that were truly iconic. In the fickle world of fashion, however, that’s a bigger challenge than it may seem. As Coco and Breezy put it, what’s considered cool is constantly changing.

But the two persevered regardless, armed with that tenacity and Puerto Rican confidence their mother imparted on them so strongly. And within a short amount of time, Coco & Breezy specs were being worn by the likes of Nicki Minaj, Kelly Osbourne, and Rihanna, to name just a few.

As for that dream of designing an iconic pair of sunglasses, it finally arrived when the two were asked to create a custom pair of specs for the late, great Prince, who wore them during an appearance on Saturday Night Live. From that moment forward, Coco & Breezy became highly regarded in the fashion world.
